Manila Hostage taking Incident: The Death of Common Sense.

The hostage taking incident today wherein an irate police officer took an entire bus load of Chinese tourists as hostages once again highlighted the incompetence, as well as the plight, of our Philippine National Police. Five hostages out of 15 ended up dead in the rescue attempt by the "Special Unit" of the PNP NCRPO.The entire world watched live as the Philippine Police made an embarrassment of the entire country. We do not have to be members of an elite commando unit to observe what went terribly wrong. Plain and simple Common Sense - which unfortunately was absent today - could have resulted in a different outcome and lives saved. Continue Reading

The mousetrap

This is an old story circulating around the ‘Net for quite some time now. Note the parallelism between this and the attacks vs. the right for self-protection?

Mayor Darlene Custodio declares Gen San City as a Gun Free Zone

GENERAL SANTOS CITY—Alarmed by the upsurge in summary killings, which have been gripping the city since last month, Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio on Friday issued an executive order declaring the city a no-firearm zone.

In her order, Custodio noted the prevalence of gun-related killings, which, according to her, “has already reached an alarming level.”

Last month, the police said 17 persons had died from gun and bladed weapons attacks by still unidentified suspects.

Some of the victims were suspected criminals, while the others were locked in disputes, the police said.

In regulating guns in the city, Custodio said only on-duty law enforcers and private security personnel would be allowed to carry firearms.

She said she had asked the local police and military units to make a report on private individuals issued with corresponding patrol order (PO) and mission orders (MO) for assessment.

PROGUN Legal defense Team?

Due to the increasing number of anti-gun measures being issued, it may be high time for us to form legal defense teams to file law suits and question these unlawful issuances in court. I have been reading carefully all these recent anti-gun measures - a lot of which are outrightly illegal and unconstitutional - and I feel that the public is being shortchanged and our fundamental rights are being trampled upon by the powers that be.Legal action must also complement our political lobbying. Lobbying and media exposure can only take us so far, if people in power refuse to listen to our pleas or if they are downright dictatatorial and do not care about the will of the people. "KAPAL MUKHA" is the term that can describe our policy makers on firearms, and it would seem that they would stop at nothing to enforce their personal and foreign-supported anti-gun policies. These new measures in the form of PNP Circulars, will make it more difficult and add to the burden of obtaining licensing and permits to carry firearms.

Continue Reading
