PROGUN WELCOMES OUR NEW PRESIDENT NOYNOY “PNOY” AQUINO

Today, 30 June 2010, we usher in a new beginning for the Philippines. President Benigno “NoyNoy” Aquino shall be sworn in as President of the Philippines. He comes in amidst high expectations and hope that the corruption that has creeped back into our government and has diminished the gains that we had fought so hard for in EDSA 1, shall be reversed and the nation be set back on the right track. Human rights, Poverty, corruption, scandals, disrespect for the Constitution and the rule of law, are all issues which challenge the new President to bring about the needed reversal.

In short, in voting for NoyNoy Aquino, we voted for CHANGE.

Politics and business as usual is not acceptable. We who voted for Aquino rightfully expect that corrective measures against the abuses of the past administrations (all the way to Estrada) must be taken. We note with much regret that there are hold overs in the cabinet and government agencies from the past administration. While we respect such decision to retain such persons, we do not look forward to a lengthy or extended term in the government for such “hold overs”. To the extent that these “hold over” individuals have already had their opportunity to serve, and have failed to deliver to the people, we signify our dissatisfaction. The sins of the past are wide open for the public to see, and restitution and accountability must be made. The Aquino government should have no place for Anti-People Cabinet members and heads of agencies.

Nevertheless, we look forward with hope, especially for firearms policies and legislation. The President is a known and unabashed firearms owner and shooter. This is a first in Philippine history. We certainly hope and expect that this can be harnessed for the good of the shooting community, and for the betterment, protection, and advancement of the rights of gun owners of the Philippines.

Once a shooter always a shooter. Mr. President, your time has come. We are counting on you.
