Newbie Wants to Carry: Preparing to Break-in

You’ve finally secured your first carry firearm and raring to go out and play? HUWAG MUNA!

Preparing to Break-in Your Life Preserving Toy:

1. Immediate things to buy:

So anong dapat bilhin?

  • 100 – 200 rounds of full metal jacket (FMJ) ammo either Armscor or Magtech; your choice, these are priced relatively the same.
  • 1 – 2 bullet organizers (diyan mo iipunin yung basyo mo for reloading … i recommend teflon reloads … healthier and less wear on the barrel)
  • 1 box of carry ammo (JHP – magtech is cheap but essentially effective)
  • cleaning agent and lubricant
  • tool box to organize your cleaning tools and implements

2. Protect Yourself Legally

Join a gun club; I recommend Armscor Marikina, apparently sila lang nakaka-facilitate ng 3 month PTT for all FED accredited ranges all over the country.

3. Field Strip and Clean Your New FA

Read the manual, browse the net … study your FA and how to field strip it, clean and reassemble. Clean your unit as best you can; pay attention to signs of factory grease that has begun to cake with dirt and time. Make sure your barrel is completely clean, when they did a ballistics test in Crame they most likely used lead reloads … cheap mga tao doon eh. Remember the cleaner your bore before break-in the better it’s grouping potential as you break it in. When you reassemble your FA, make sure everything is properly sitted in place.

4. Himas-himasin Mo Toy Mo

You’re now prepared to break-in your new toy. Prepare to go to the playground bro at inggitin ang mga kalaro mong mga bata. Tandaan, huwag mag-aaway magagalit si Lord

  1. Here are a few other things that a newbie mightfind useful:

    • Snap caps in your caliber for dry-fire practice
    • Rubber cleaning mat so you don’t dirty your work surface (a cheap doormat from a hardware store works well)
    • Small flashlight for inspecting the bore while cleaning
    • Compressed air for flushing out dirt, solvent and dirty lube from hard to reach places (computer stores should have these)
    • Eye and ear protectors (the range might have them on loan but these are personal items so you should really have your own)
    • Gun bag, holster or other carry accessories
    • A safe for securing your firearm when its not on your person
    • Another part-time job to replenish all the money you spent and to feed your new addiction! 🙂
  2. My gratitude to mandaragit and boiled frog for their very informative articles. Newbies will find it very useful as they find their way into the world of gun ownership, shooting sports and gun carry. As an additional advice, keep your receipts and warranty certificates so that when the need arises you can always show it to the shop or store were you bought it.

Kudos to Mandaragit and Boiled Frog!
