The International Effort to Ban Guns

All firearms owners and enthusiasts should watch this 9 minute video about the international effort to ban guns. It is US-focused but the points also apply to the Philippines. Remember, despite claims from the anti-gun groups, banning guns will not make the world safer for the average person. It will only make a safer world for tyrannical governments and for criminals.

  1. Yes, this video is quite true. If you haven’t known this is happening in the UN, I hope that this will be  a wake up call. Anti-gun organizations such as the International Action Network Against Small Arms (IANSA), Control Arms, Amnesty International, Oxfam and etc. have been going all out to ban guns since the 90’s.  These NGO’s are more dangerous than the traditional silly anti-gun orgs like Nature/ Gunless Society, etc. in that they are much more sophisticated, well-funded and well connected with foreign governments and the United Nations. As stated Rebecca Peters is an expert at diplomacy and raising funding. She has already raised millions of dollars for anti-gun agenda from Billionaire and anti-gun activist George Soros and the governments of UK, Norway, Japan, Ireland, and a number of Christian Anti-gun foundations. IANSA was directly responsible for the recent total gun bans in the UK and Australia. In the Philippines, IANSA is represented by PHILIANSA headed by Prof. Jennifer Oreta of Ateneo.

Their strategy is to seek an “Arms Trade Treaty” in the UN, and for member states to ratify this global treaty and incorporate it into the members states’ national laws. Referring to the web site of Control Arms, Inc., there are listed a number of “what we would want to see in the ATT”, such as global licensing and registration of firearms, restrictions on transfers to non-state actors, e.g., civilians, arms embargos to states which are gross human rights violators (including Philippines),and a endless number of restrictions. IANSA’s ultimate goal is to “restrict the civilian ownership of guns”, as stated in its web site. More than 250 anti-gun orgs are united in their stand to deprive us of our right to keep and bear arms.

Can IANSA and other anti-gun orgs use the UN and its Arms Trade Treat to affect civilian gun ownership in the Philippines?

Yes. If the Philippines would SIGN the Aarms Trade Treaty and agree to its principles, diplomatically, then we would be bound by it. What is merely required under our Constitution is that the treaty must be ratified by at least 2/3 of Senate and Congress for it to become law. In 2001, IANSA spearheaded the UN “Program of Action” protocol, which addressed the Illicit Trade and sale of small arms and light weapons. As if that were not enough, lastt year in October 2009, IANSA again pushed for a vote in the UN for the creation of an ad hoc committee to discuss small arms and the drafting of an ATT. The sole accredited Pro-gun NGO allowed to participate in these proceedings in the UN is the US National Rifle Association (NRA).

Pro-gunners are out-gunned, out-funded, and under-represented. Only our voice, our will, and our resilience, will stop this nonsense. And let it begin right here and now in this site.
