Bilang Sagot kina Korina Sanchez at Ted Failon

Wala po kaming perehas kina Rolito Go at Jason Ivler.

  1. I just finished watching Failon Ngayon on ABS-CBN. Although, the show had a general anti-gun theme, it was rather tame; it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Anyway, here are some points I’d like to address:

During the initial part of the show, Mr. Failon comments on how easy it is to own a firearm in our country, that for P15,000.00, one can acquire a licensed firearm. And so, what’s his point? Even if you could purchase a licensed gun for P1,000.00 it does not negate the fact that the buyer still has to go through the rigid process of submitting the necessary requirements and passing the battery of tests required by the government in order to own a firearm. I think it’s a good thing that there are inexpensive licensed firearms available in the market which makes it more affordable for the average citizen to procure one for his or her personal protection. There is nothing inherently wrong with having affordable firearms.

According also to Mr. Failon, our country has the most lenient policy when it comes to firearms ownership in the whole of Southeast Asia. Well, although there may be a little truth in that it is an unfair comparison simply because a lot of SEA countries do not allow its citizens to own firearms. Of course, no matter how strict we are when it comes to legitimate firearms ownership, we will always appear to be lenient when compared to a country that COMPLETELY PROHIBIT its citizens to own or possess firearms; it does not necessarily mean that our policies or laws pertaining to gun ownership are lax or inadequate. In fact, I believe we have very strict gun laws, actually, too strict if you ask me. I’m proud to say that we are one of the truly democratic countries in Southeast Asia; most of the countries in SEA have either autocratic (claiming to be democratic) or socialist systems of government; please do not compare our system of government with China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, etc.; these are police states, hence, they do not allow private ownership of guns; it’s much easier to control people that way since they have no means to resist (remember Martial Law?).

Somewhere in the middle of the program, Mr. Failon continues his anti-gun rhetoric by saying that “parang bentahan lang sa tiangge ang bentahan ngayon ng mga baril, yung iba pinapackage pa kasama ang lisensya”.  This is simply not true, you cannot purchase a licensed firearm over the counter, most buyers normally have to wait three weeks to a month for their licenses to be processed, approved and their guns to be released; granting all requirements have been submitted and are complete. As for the license being packaged with the gun, Mr. Failon’s tone seem to suggest that there is something wrong with that when in fact this is just normal and logical. Of course the gun is packaged with the license; you cannot purchase a gun without the license; that would be illegal. It’s no different from saying “yung kotse na binebenta pinapackage kasama yung rehistro”; SIYEMPRE MAGKASAMA TALAGA YON, ANO BA YAN! Naturingan pa naman na seasoned reporter and veteran news anchor.

During the last segment of the show, Mr. Failon mentioned that “itong 2010 lamang nakapagtala 5,779 na kaso ng iresponsableng pag gamit ng baril”. Where did this statistical data come from? What exactly does he mean by “iresponsableng pag gamit ng baril”? As far as the PNP-FED statistics go, from 2004 to the present, only about 1% of all guns used in gun related criminal incidents were licensed, hence, 99% of all guns used were loose or unregistered firearms. Mind you, we’re talking about the past 7 years, not this year alone. That’s almost a perfect record of zero incidents for all legitimate gun owners. It just proves that the system in place works and that the vast majority of legitimate gun owners are peaceful and responsible.

This is a clear example of how biased some members of the media are. They will distort the truth and twist the facts just to further their agenda and garner network ratings. They always focus on tragedy, poverty, misery, and evil doers because they can sensationalize it, spin the story according to their whim and sell it as news.

    1. Actually, lahat ng mga sinasabi ni Mr. Failon during his program was sort of a defensive strategy to simply clear his past involvement of his wife’s death. Mentally, hindi pa ‘yan nakaka-recover. Nako-konsensya pa yan… Hindi naman tayo TANGA to believe everything what he said; hook, line and sinker.

We are all aware about the story behind the ALLEGED suicide of Mr. Failon’s wife… all his statements in opposition to his actions were all contradicting.

  2. We have just received information from the major firearms dealers that the Failon show was funded by the Anti-gun Gunless society and Kapatiran.

    Let’s hope not….

  3. why cant they just simply admit it that if the government (PNP/AFP) can only protect each Filipino then we wouldnt bother carrying guns, Gunless society is very ideal but with the criminals around lalo lang lalakas ang loob nila humawak ng armas at maghasik ng kasamaan knowing walang panlaban ang mga ordinary citizens sa kanila.

they cant remove the fact that even if they disarm all legitimate gun owners will resolve crimes involving guns, Danao Cebu is one of the most common source of unregistered firearms why havent they been looking at it.

disarming civilians will not stop bad people from arming themselves they dont know any law, dont respect any man.

and other people’s neglect in gun use is not a responsibility of another legitimate gun owner.

why are putting this as an issue against gun ownership?
