MANILA, Philippines – A local official from Zamboanga del Sur was wounded in an ambush in Malate, Manila, Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Labanan town Vice Mayor Ocol Talumpa and his 2 children had just boarded a silver Toyota Vios (MQM 148) in front a a condominium building in Malate district when unidentified armed men fired at them.

Talumpa and his driver identified as Alimodin Salid were wounded. The local officials’ children escaped the ambush unscathed.

Police investigators said that according to the building’s security, Forcerio Malayan, one of the shooters was wearing a T-shirt and a military cap.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind Talumpa’s shooting.
