TWO persons were killed while 10 others were wounded when unidentified suspects hurled a grenade inside the house of a village chief the other night in Zamboanga City.

The fatalities were identified as barangay secretary Cecilia Ebol and barangay candidate Elvic Gregorio.

Taken to the nearest hospital for treatment were Barangay Chairman Diosterides Librero, of Ayala, his wife Nobelita, barangay councilmen Edgar Torralba, Alex Macapili, Darlene Padernal and Edgar Enriquez and Librero’s employees — Mario Bucoy, Daniel Carpio, Arsenio Agustin and Romeo Enriquez.

The incident occurred late night inside the house of Librero in Bgy. Ayala.

The village chief was holding a meeting inside his house when two unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle hurled the explosive.

Because of the strong impact of the explosion, two persons died on the spot while 10 others were wounded.

Authorities are not discounting the possibility that the attack was politically-motivated since the city’s barangay elections, which was postponed due to the recent siege involving Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels, is drawing near.
