Jesus Agustin, 60, an ex-convict, and Filomeno Ariban, 63, the man who allegedly paid him to kill Josephine Janggayan were both arrested on the same night.
Janggayan sustained a stab wound in the stomach and died on the spot.
A police report disclosed that Janggayan and her daughter Maryjane were walking along the dimly lit Sawali compound in Triplitt when Agustin chased them and stabbed her in the stomach.
Agustin ran away but was collared by some residents. He was turned over to the barangay officials.
Hours later Ariban was nabbed by policemen after Agustin confessed that he allegedly paid him to kill Janggayan.
It was learned that Ariban and Agustin were having a drinking spree at the former’s house when Janggayan and her daughter passed by.
Agustin told the police that Ariban instructed him to follow the mother and daughter and kill her.
Agustin claimed that Ariban allegedly paid him P5,000 to kill Josephine.
It was learned that Ariban and Josephine had a dispute after the latter’s husband sold their house and lot to Ariban.
Ariban allegedly told Josephine to vacate the place because their house and lot already belong to him. However, Josephine refused to do so as she has no knowledge about the transaction.
Ariban denied Agustin’s allegation saying he did not pay him to kill the victim.
