A witness to the Maguindanao massacre was shot dead last week, according to a lawyer of the relatives of some of the victims.
Suwaid Upham was killed by a lone unidentified gunman last June 14 in Parang town in Maguindanao, said lawyer Harry Roque, counsel for 14 of the massacre victims who were all members of the media. Thirty two of the 57 victims of the November 2009 massacre that took place in Ampatuan town were journalists.
Upham went to Manila last March to apply for the witness protection under the Department of Justice, but was not admitted to the program, Roque said.
