TALISAY, Batangas — Police arrested a wanted felon while strolling inside the public market the other day.
Police provincial director Senior Supt. Omega Jireh Deocares Fidel identified the felon as Gilbert dela Cruz Buenaflor, alias Oniok, 39, a fisherman, of Bgy. Tumaway, Talisay, Batangas.
At 8:30 a.m. last Wednesday, elements of the Talisay Police Station, led by SPO1 Edwin B. Cruzat and under the direct supervision of Senior Insp. Domingo Ballesteros, OIC, conducted an operation that led to the arrest of Buenaflor.
Policemen, armed with a warrant for murder issued by Judge Arcadio I Manigbas, of the Regional Trial Court Branch 83, Fourth Judicial Region, Tanauan City, Batangas, arrested the suspect while walking inside the Talisay Public Market in Bgy. Poblacion 6.
A witness, identified as Ana Rose Barredo dela Cruz (daughter of Aaron dela Cruz y Llanuevo/victim), said that on May 2, 2004, in Sitio Pirapiraso, Pulo Island, this town, the accused, together with Henorio Jesalva, alias “Damo,” hacked the victim in different parts of his body with a jungle bolo and hit him with a bamboo pole, causing his instantaneous death.
The suspect was detained at Talisay Police Station detention cell.
