MANILA, Philippines—A candidate for village councilor was shot by two unidentified suspects at Sitio (sub-village) Kapalaran, Barangay (village) Salvador, Calamba, Misamis Occidental Monday, reports reaching Camp Crame on Wednesday showed.

Police said that the victim Carmelo Banzuela, a candidate for village councilor, had just got home from Salvador Elementary School when he was shot.

Banzuela was rushed to the Calamba District Hospital and was later transferred to the Oroquieta Provincial Hospital.
