A BARANGAY captain in Mabitac town was killed near the village hall on Tuesday evening.

Mabitac police chief Inspector Aldyn Villalon said Luis Tolledo, 54, the third-term captain of Barangay Lucong was at the basketball court near the village hall, when a lone gunman in black jacket approached and shot the victim on the forehead with a .45-caliber pistol.

The gunman immediately walked away after the incident. Witnesses rushed the victim to a hospital in Pakil town but was pronounced dead on arrival.

That evening, Tolledo’s son received two messages on his cell phone that allegedly came from the New People’s Army. The message read that Tolledo was killed because of his “abuses against the masses.” Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
