GUINYANGAN, Quezon — Police arrested a young farmer for allegedly raping a 13-year-old pretty girl in his house in a remote village, here, Saturday night.
Quezon police director Senior Supt. Dionard Carlos identified the suspect as Joan Lumabi, 23, neighbor of the victim and nephew of the barangay chairman.
Officer on case PO3 Alma Cataquiz said Lumabi and some of his male friends earlier had a drinking session in the nearby nipa hut.
In a phone interview, Cataquiz said one of Lumabi’s friends handed money to the victim and asked her to buy a bottle of liquor from a sari-sari store.
On her way to the store, Cataquiz said the victim was followed by Lumabi and dragged her into his house a few meters away.
“Sinabayan po siya ng suspek at biglang hinila papasok sa kanyang bahay,” he said.
Quoting the girl’s account, Cataquiz said the suspect, who was armed with a bolo, immediately assaulted her by kissing her and touching her breasts.
She said the girl pleaded for mercy but she was ignored by the drunk suspect.
The suspect then removed the girl’s clothes and underwear and quickly went on top of her, she said.
Cataquiz said the girl tried to resist but she could not do anything for fear of being killed.
She said it was at that point when the girl’s grandmother arrived and caught the suspect assaulting the girl.
Cataquiz said the suspect hurriedly took on his clothes and fled as the victim’s grandmother shouted for help.
With the assistance of Bgy. Chairman Romeo Lumabi, who is an uncle of the suspect, she said policemen were able to arrest him an hour later at an adjacent village.
The suspect was detained at the municipal jail and charged with rape.
