Village chairman killed in Maguindanao bomb blast

MANILA, Philippines – A village chairman was killed in an explosion that hit Barangay Macasampen, Guindulungan town in Maguindanao on Thursday, police said.

The village official was identified as Salindatu Laguialam, who was declared dead on arrival at a hospital near the blast site.

Authorities said Laguialam was on board a Toyota Tamaraw FX with his 14-year-old son when the blast occurred along the national highway at around 6 a.m.

Laguialam’s son and a 7-year-old girl were wounded in the incident.

Laguialam’s family said they are not certain if Laguialam was the target of the explosion.

Authorities have yet to determine what device was used and the motive behind the attack.

Investigations were still ongoing as of posting.
