FIFTY-NINE sacks containing local and international mail were stolen when the van carrying the cargo was hijacked as it was about to leave the parking area of the Cainta Post Office on Monday morning.

Senior Police Officer 2 Reynaldo Montefalcon, of Quezon City Police District Station 2, said the van, with plate number SGV 51, carrying 59 sacks of assorted mail was taken at gun point by five men from two Pasay City postal employees at around 7:45 a.m.

The van driver, Florentino Tarnate, and his companion Alejandro Alejandro said they were told to get off the vehicle as two armed men wearing postal office uniforms boarded the van.

The victims, who were blindfolded and whose hands were tied by the robbers, told police their cell phones were also stolen.

Policeman later found the van in front of a mall in Quezon City.
