Tricycle driver stabbed dead in his sleep
By Nestor Etolle (The Philippine Star) Updated June 04, 2010 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines – A 25-year-old tricycle driver learned too late of the peril of sleeping outside of one’s home after an assailant snuffed out his life early morning yesterday in Sampaloc, Manila.
The victim, Humprey Tejada, was sleeping together with his live-in partner Aiko on a parked tricycle outside their residence along Buenos Aires st., Sampaloc when the suspect attacked, according to investigator PO2 Lester Evangelista.
Aiko told police she was sleeping when she was awakened by a commotion involving her partner and an unidentified man. She said she saw her partner bloodied and running after his attacker. After a short distance, the victim fell while the suspect made good his escape.
Tejada was rushed to the Ospital ng Sampaloc where he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple stab wounds.
Police theorized the assailant could be harboring ill feelings against the victim and saw an opportunity to retaliate while Tejada was sleeping unaware outside of his residence. Police noted jailhouse tattoos on the victim’s body, including the marking of “Sputnik Gang,” the brotherhood of jail inmates.
Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District advised the public to secure themselves inside the safety of their homes, especially those who had incurred the ire of others who could be looking for an opportunity to strike back.
