MANILA, Philippines—Irate over a stolen tire, a tricycle driver ended up killing the man he suspected of making off with his tire on Monday afternoon in Quezon City.
Orlando Dollente, 48, of Kaliraya Street in Barangay Tatalon died of three gunshot wounds while being treated at the Delos Santos Medical Center almost an hour after the shooting.
Police arrested the complaining tricycle driver, Sonny Abad, who shot the alleged thief in his rage.
Case investigator SPO1 Eric Lazo said the shooting happened at around 1:30 pm Monday along Ocabati Kaliraya Street in Barangay Tatalon.
Abad, 36, and a resident of the Bolaños compound in the same barangay, initially asked for help from the Galas police station as Dollente allegedly stole his tricycle’s tire.
Three policemen accompanied him back to the tricycle terminal where they saw Dollente running away at the sight of the police officers.
A furious Abad chased the alleged thief and caught up with him.
To the policemen’s surprise, the complainant pulled out an Armscor .38-caliber pistol and shot Dollente.
Lazo said Abad was immediately arrested while Dollente was rushed to the hospital where he died at around 2:31 pm.
Aside from the gun, police also recovered four bullets and two spent shells inside the revolver.
