MANILA, Philippines — A taxi driver of a well-known transport company was killed in an apparent robbery in Quezon City, early Sunday, police report said.
SPO2 Mario Turiano of the Quezon City Police District homicide section identified the driver as William Herrera, 47, a driver of the MGE Transport Coporation and a resident of No. 176 Sarmiento Extension, Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches, Quezon City .
Investigation showed that Herrera was already dead when he was found at around 12:10 a.m., slumped on the driver’s seat of his taxi (TXF-469) in front of a house at No. 506-C on Damayan St., Barangay Batasan Hills.
Police said the vehicle hit the gutter of the road.
The policeman said Herrera sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the neck, which was caused by a bullet from a .38-caliber gun. Based on the residents’ accounts, they heard two successive shots, and when they looked, they saw two men coming out from the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
When they checked the taxi, they saw the bloodied driver on his seat.
Investigators said the robbers might have posed as passengers. “The victim could have resisted (the holdup) and was eventually shot,” the policeman said.
A witness who was not identified had come forward and named a resident in the area as one of the men who robbed and killed the taxi driver, the police said.
