A taxi driver was stabbed dead following an argument with a man who confronted him after the taxicab rammed into a fence in barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City at dawn yesterday.

Police said Ernesto Dugoy, 33, a resident in the barangay, died of at least 29 stab wounds in the different parts of the body.

Police said Dugoy was driving home when the taxi rammed the fence of a funeral parlor around 2 a.m.

SPO1 Rolito Jumao-as, homicide investigator of the Lapu-Lapu police, said that according to the boy he talked to, a man confronted the taxi driver after he was allegedly hit by the cabbie while urinating by the roadside.

The man, who was part of a group having a drinking session in a nearby store, demanded payment from Dugoy.

But Dugoy refused to pay the man, saying he was not hurt.

The two men argued before the man stabbed the taxi driver.

The other persons in the drinking session joined the fray and took turns in stabbing Dugoy.

The assailants fled after the incident.

Jumao-as said the boy failed to recognize the assailants.

Police would also investigate the the owner of the store where the group had a drinking session despite the ongoing liquor ban.
