Suspended policeman shot dead
(The Freeman) Updated April 13, 2010 12:00 AM
CEBU, Philippines – A policeman was shot dead last Saturday afternoon in Barangay Villa Inocencio, Placer, Masbate.
PO2 Renato Alondres, 39, a resident of Villa Inocencio, was allegedly shot dead by Gorlito Recomendas, also a resident of the said barangay.
Alondres is presently assigned to the Compostela Police Station but is currently under suspension due to a child abuse case.
Police said Alondres and Recomendas were talking in the house of the victim at about 3:30 p.m. when they got into an argument which later led to the suspect pulling out a gun and shooting the victim.
Alondres was shot several times and killed instantly.
The suspect fled after the incident but he voluntarily surrendered a few hours later with the .45 cal. pistol he used to shoot the victim. He is now detained in the Placer Police Station.
Policemen recovered three .45 cal. slugs at the crime scene.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Erson Digal said Alondres was serving a six-month suspension meted by the Ombudsman for a child abuse case docketed in Masbate.
Digal explained to the media that because of his status, his family cannot claim his benefits from the government because his death was not in line with his duty as a policeman.
But Digal said his family can still get his burial and Social Security System benefits.
Digal said that police are still investigating the possible motive of the killing, but initially they found out that the mothers of both suspect and victim are allied with different politicians. (FREEMAN NEWS)
