A suspected robber was shot dead in an encounter with police in Quezon City before dawn Friday, shortly after allegedly mugging a teenaged girl.
The man was cornered near the creek in Barangay Tatalon, moments after he took the mobile phone of the teenager at gunpoint, radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported.
Police described the slain suspect as between 30 to 35 years old and slim. They are still verifying his identity after recovering several ID cards in his possession.
An initial investigation showed the man held up the victim near the corner of Araneta Avenue and Quezon Avenue, took her cell phone, and walked away.
But the girl sought police assistance, and a police team cornered the man near the creek.
The man allegedly fired at the policemen, who fired back and hit him in different parts of the body. — RSJ, GMA News
