MANILA, Philippines – One of three suspected robbers was killed after a shootout with police in Batangas, an official said today.

Superintendent Pascual Munoz Jr., chief of the regional public information office in Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City, said the firefight between the alleged robbers and police happened around 3:30 p.m. yesterday on J. Katigbak St., Barangay Mataas na Lupa, Lipa City, Batangas.

During the shootout, SPO1 Rodel Dagie Calingasan was wounded in the right thigh.

A report disclosed that the three suspects, riding in tandem on a motorcycle, blocked the path of a vehicle carrying business couple Sonia and Ruel Zara, and Adelina Lescaano. They forcibly took cash and valuables from the victims.

Authorities recovered from the scene two cal. 45 pistols, and three empty shell of cal. 9mm pistol and one spent shell of cal. 45 pistol.
