A motorcycle rider linked to gun-for-hire activities was himself shot and seriously wounded in an ambush by unidentified men in Manila’s Quiapo district Monday night.

Police said the shooting occurred at 10 p.m. near a mosque at Norzagaray Street in Quiapo, radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported early Tuesday.

The victim, initially identified as Abubakar Bantolino, was shot in the head and was brought to the Mother and Child Hospital in Tondo, Manila.

Recovered from the crime scene were shell casings from .45 cal. and 9-mm pistols.

Barbosa police community precinct head Inspector Armando Macaraeg said their records showed Bantolino had been linked to hired-killer activities in the past.

Macaraeg said the victim had also been arrested for illegal possession of firearms. — DVM, GMA News
