Manila, Philippines – A college student who was supposed to meet his alleged girlfriend was gunned down at past midnight yesterday in Quezon City.
Investigator SPO1 Cristituto Zaldarriaga identified the victim as Art John Paul Arongat, 22, of Mazaranga St., Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City.
Zaldarriaga said that Arongat, who sustained multiple bullet wounds, died on the spot during the shooting incident at 12:05 a.m. yesterday on Santo Domingo Avenue, Barangay Santo Domingo.
According to witnesses, the victim was killed by an unidentified man who rode a green Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
However, Zaldarriaga said that police have yet to find a witness who knows what kind of SUV it was and its license plates.
The investigator learned that Arongat was in Barangay Santo Domingo with his cousin while waiting for the victim’s girlfriend who was only known as a certain Carmi Moto at the corner of Atok St. and Santo Domingo Avenue. Zaldarriaga said that the woman never appeared.
Instead, an SUV arrived in the area and the gunman alighted from the vehicle to approach the victim.
The gunman, who was armed with a 9mm pistol, approached the victim and fired shots at him. Though wounded, Arongat ran but was chased by the gunman who fired more shots.
Arongat eventually fell in front of the Senya Café at the corner of Tirad Pass St. and Santo Domingo Avenue. The gunman boarded the SUV with several of his companions then fled the area.
Police are investigating the possibility that Arongat was killed because his girlfriend is married.
Zaldarriaga said that police were able to recover the cellphone of the victim and found out that Arongat has been receiving threats from an unsaved mobile phone number.
One of the messages to Arongat read, “Tigilan mo na asawa ko kundi papatayin kita (Stop your affair with my wife or I will kill you).”
