A high school student is the latest fatality in the new spate of violent attacks in Mampang, this city.

Rasul Heding, 14, a high school student of the Talon-Talon National High School and a pedicab driver in Salam Drive, Mampang, was killed while his companion escaped unhurt in a gun attack Saturday night. Heding sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

A police report disclosed that Heding and Jumar Isnani, 20, also a pedicab driver, were driving their respective pedicabs along Sunrise Drive, Mampang and were looking for the owner of a baggage left aboard his (Heding’s) pedicab, around 6 p.m., when two men appeared and blocked their path, then one of them shot Isnani. But the gun jammed.

Isnani ran away leaving Heding behind who was later shot and killed by the gunmen.

Isnani told the police he failed to recognize the assailants as it was his first time to see them.

Isnani was placed under the custody of the police for further interrogation.

The killing of Heding came 24 hours after an army soldier and a woman were shot dead inside a house in Mampang Friday. Two others were wounded in the same attack, which could be connected to the running feud between two groups in the Mampang-Talon-Talon area.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo disclosed that the police will run after those who involved in the series of killings in Mampang and Talon-Talon.

Meanwhile, a tricycle driver was killed and a widow was wounded in a gun attack in Barangay La Piedad, Isabela City Basilan last Tuesday.

Killed was Benjie Alpha also known as Bryan Peñaflor, married. He sustained a gunshot on his body. Wounded was Akmad Jumadil Y. Saraji 42. He sustained a gunshot on his body and was confined at the Basilan Community.

Investigation disclosed that while Peñaflor and Jumadil were washing their tricycles, two unidentified men aboard a red Honda XRM motorcycle appeared and opened fire on them, then fled later to an undisclosed direction.

Investigators were still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting.
