LIMAY, Bataan, Philippines -– A security guard of a storage firm here fired at a group of 10 children gathering metal scrap in Barangay Lamao, killing one of them and wounding another on Saturday night.

Police said John Ray Magnaan, 14, died instantly after he was hit by a shotgun bullet in the head and chest.

Police said Rudy Simpol, security guard of Grand Planters Storage Area, was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

Magnaan’s companion, Wilmar Paulo, 12, was wounded and taken to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City.

Paulo said he and his companions, aged 12 to 15, did not go inside the Grand Planters compound and were only in the vicinity to look for metal scrap that they could sell in a local junk shop. He said Simpol did not fire a warning shot.
