A BUSINESSMAN engaged in buy and sell was gunned down by an unidentified assailant inside a beach resort in Barangay Catarman, Liloan, Cebu last Wednesday afternoon.
Lorenzo Baticulon, 50, died from gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body.
Senior Insp. Leo Ty, the town’s police chief, said the attack happened at 3:30 p.m. while the victim was singing in a videoke machine with his wife Estrelleta.
The gunman also took the wallet of Baticulon, with P7,000 cash inside, before fleeing.
The gunman fled on board a motorcycle driven by a cohort.
Six empty shells from caliber .45 pistol were recovered by the police at the crime scene. Witnesses said the suspects were wearing ball caps and have fair complexion.
Hours before the shooting, some residents claimed that they saw the suspects in the area at 11:30 a.m., as if they were familiarizing the scene.
Ty told Sun.Star Cebu said they are considering the possibility of a love triangle as a motive in the attack.
Estrelleta, when interviewed by the police yesterday, reportedly claimed her husband had an illicit affair. He allegedl impregnated the other woman.
“Karon pa sad siya kahibaw human namatay iyang bana (She only learned about it after her husband was killed),” Ty said.
The police are also eyeing a business rivalry as another possible motive. The victim was engaged in buy and sell of scrap metals and used products.
“Buotan man kuno ni siya didto (He was reportedly a good man),” Ty said.
The police station chief said he will ask Baticulon’s bestfriend to help in the investigation, as the victim reportedly confided all his concerns to his bestfriend.
