TWO barangay captains in San Remigio town, northern Cebu reported to the police that they were ambushed by unidentified men last Friday afternoon.
Celerino Cabanque Mancao and Noli Latsaron Cataga said they were fortunate to escape the attack unhurt.
Mancao and Cataga are barangay captains in Anapog and Sab-a, respectively.
The two village officials said they were on board a motorcycle driven by Cataga when unidentified men fired at them as they passed a secluded area in barangay Bancasan past 2 p.m.
No one was able to witness the attack, said police.
The two men were on their way home after taking their oaths at the municipal hall.
The two barangay officials reported to the police after the attack.
Members of the San Remigio police, led by town police chief Ruvic Villarin, rushed to the area but failed to locate the gunmen.
Because of the incident, operatives of the Special Reaction Unit (SRU) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) were sent to the area./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
