A SHIP ENGINEER WAS ROBBED AND then shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in Manila Thursday morning.
Edralin Amon, a native of Davao City and a temporary resident of Singalong, died while undergoing treatment at the Ospital ng Maynila for a lone gunshot wound on his left temple, police said.
Amon was shot at close range by two motorcycle-riding suspects authorities have yet to identify and are now the subject of a manhunt.
An investigation showed that the incident happened in front of Marian Townhomes on Singalong Street in Malate around 7:23 a.m.
The victim, who was in Manila to attend a training seminar for seafarers, reportedly stepped out of his boarding house across Marian Townhomes for a smoke when the suspects, on board a plateless motorcycle, stopped in front of him and tried to rob him of his valuables.
Amon apparently refused to surrender his jewelry and instead tried to fend off the two men.
Footage of the incident recorded on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera shown by police to reporters indicated that the victim tried to pull away from the suspects, leading one of them to shoot him.
The suspects reportedly took Amon’s gold necklace and bracelet before they sped away on their motorcycle.
Passersby who witnessed the incident rushed the victim to the hospital where he died while undergoing an operation.
