Robbers strike, kill Turk on Taguanao bridge
By BOBBY LAGSA – Correspondent Updated May 13, 2010 12:00 AM
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (Cidu) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) yesterday said it was trying to close in on the robbers believed to be responsible for the killing of a Turk on the bridge in Taguanao, Indahag on Tuesday night.
Cidu head Chief Insp. Reynato Reyes identified the victim as Cedvet Baybara, 32, from Ankara, Turkey. He lived at Camella Homes here.
Baybara succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in the abdomen.
Police said Baybara was with his wife, Sumeyye Turker, on the Taguanao Bridge when robbers attacked at around 11:30 pm.
Investigators said Baybara put up a fight.
The area is a known lovers’ lane. A number of couples have continued to date in that area despite repeated warnings from the local police due to security concerns.
“We call on Cagayanons to refrain from dating in that area. It’s dimly lit––it’s dangerous despite the efforts of the barangay tanods to patrol the area,” Reyes said.
Reyes said the suspects are believed to be members of an organized crime group.
“There have been several incidents in that area (Taguanao) and we believe that this is the same group that operates out of Bukidnon,” Reyes said.
The remains of Baybara were brought to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for autopsy.
