A retired soldier was shot dead while his wife was wounded after two men riding tandem on a motorcycle opened fire on them in Barangay Gupot, Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Killed was Ernesto Kamfrel, 56, married. He succumbed to a gunshot wound on his left cheek. Wounded was Ernesto’s wife Cherrylyn, 53.
A police report disclosed that the couple was on their way home aboard a Honda Wave 125, when gunmen aboard a black 125 cc XRM sidled up the and shot them at close range.
Witnesses told police that they saw the gunmen tailing the couple prior to the shooting.
Residents tried to rush the couple to a nearby hospital but Ernesto died on the way. Police were looking into personal dispute or business rivalry as two possible motive behind the incident.
Ernesto and Cherrylyn were reportedly engaged in lending business.
