MANILA, Philippines — At least two men shot dead a retired Army colonel while he was driving along C-5 in Taguig City on Tuesday night, according to the police.

The victim was identified as Jose Melegrito, 59, who died while being treated at the Ospital ng Makati.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim was riding his Isuzu Crosswind when he made a full stop before turning to C-5 around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The gunmen approached the driver’s side of the vehicle aboard a motorcycle, and shot the victim repeatedly at close range.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the killing.
