Two unidentified armed men sprung at least five suspected burglars from a police jail in Cagayan de Oro City Thursday night, after overpowering the lone policeman on duty with only a nightstick as a weapon.

Radio dzXL reported Friday that the men wore bonnets and were armed with cal-.45 pistols, which they poked at policeman on duty PO2 Rodrigo Reyes.

Reyes said he could not fight back since he was the only one on duty at the police station in the city’s Agora district.

At the time of the incident, he said his companions were on patrol.

Initial investigation showed the men forced Reyes to get the keys to the police detention facility and to release suspected members of the “Akyat Bahay” gang.

While conducting an investigation on Reyes, police have started a manhunt operation for suspects, the report said.

Thursday night’s incident was the first time a police station in Cagayan de Oro City was raided by armed men, it added. — LBG, GMANews.TV
