Suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels rained with bullets the house of a former militiaman killing a woman in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte the other day.
A report reaching the Police Regional Office-9 disclosed that Jaham Hassan, a former Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit member and his family were taking dinner inside their house around 6:30 p.m., when a group of armed men arrived and opened on their house using high-powered firearms.
Hassan’s wife Maxili, 42, sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.
The gunmen left the place before soldiers and policemen arrived at the scene.
A police report disclosed that men of the Sirawai Municipal Police Station and troops from the Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion went on a hot pursuit operation but the attackers were nowhere to be found.
Police were looking at revenge as the motive behind the gun attack as Hassan was a military “asset”.
