MANILA, Philippines – A man who was arrested for attempted rape was shot dead in Malabon after allegedly trying to snatch the gun of a policeman on Tuesday evening.

The slain suspect, identified as Michael Guevara, allegedly tried to grab the 9mm pistol of PO3 Michael Angelo Solomon while they were inside a barangay mobile patrol vehicle in Barangay Longos.

Solomon said Guevara succeeded in grabbing his gun. This forced his police buddy, SPO1 Jerome Peralta, to shoot the suspect.

Guevara sustained three gunshot wounds. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Solomon said the incident occurred while they were on their way back to the precinct from a medical examination on the suspect.

The pistol used in killing Guevara has been surrendered while an investigation is ongoing.

Police said Guevara had been implicated in robbery incidents before. – report from Raffy Santos, ABS-CBN News
