ZAMBOANGA CITY — A local radio announcer was shot dead on Monday by two unidentified suspects in Zamboanga Sibugay province, police authorities said.

Senior Police Officer 4 Armando Humantoc identified the victim as Mario Vendiola Baylosis, 33, married, a resident of Barangay Goodyear, Kabasalan town in Zamboanga Sibugay and a radio announcer of Radyo Natin’s dxLM-FM 101.7, located in Kabansalan.

The victim is also a news correspondent of the Siay-based dxNC-Radyo Suhnan, according dxNC station manager Jerry Kimos.

Humantoc said the incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. Monday in front of Phoenix gasoline station located at the national highway in Barangay Salipyasin, Kabansalan.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was driving his motorcycle on his way home from work when the two suspects riding-tandem on a motorcycle got abreast and shot him several times.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds in his chest. He was rushed to a hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

Baylosis came from the radio station as he had just finished his 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. program, said Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, adding that the victim handles daily an entertainment radio program over dxLM-FM.

The suspects fled toward Ipil town after shooting Baylosis, police investigation revealed.

The police in Kabasalan recovered three spent shells of caliber .45 pistol and one slug of the same caliber from the crime scene.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive and those responsible for the killing.

Earlier, Huesca disclosed that Baylosis reported to police that he received a death threat, although the victim is not a hard-hitting commentator. (Bong Garcia/MCM/PNA/Sunnex)
