MANILA, Philippines – Four people, including a poll officer, were wounded in an ambush Thursday morning in Lanao del Norte.

The victims were identified as Tangkal town election officer Pangalian Lumabao, his escort Abdula Cauntongan, Timbang Batingulo and a certain Hasim, the group’s driver.

Joseph Cuevas, provincial supervisor of the Commission on Elections, said Lumabao sustained 6 gunshot wounds in the body. He said the poll officer has been brought to a hospital in Iligan City for treatment.
 
Others who survived the ambush were Comelec encoder Jamil Omar and another escort, Radia Camaludin.

Initial report said the ambush happened around 9 a.m. Thursday.

Comelec Region 10 assistant regional director, Atty. Maria Dulce Banzon, said the motive behind the ambush could be election-related. — Report from Roxanne Arevalo, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
