CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Philippines – Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a policeman Monday morning in Barangay (village) Bangkerohan, Catarman, about a month after eight of the town policemen died in an ambush.
The policeman, Police Officer 3 Geronimo Tan, who was assigned to the Catarman Police Station, was riding a motorcycle at about 9 a.m. when his assailants shot him.
Romeo Paghubasa, a security guard of a gasoline station near the area where the ambush occurred, told the police that he first heard five gunshots and then saw Tan being followed by two men, on a motorcycle, firing at him.
Paghubasa said in an interview that upon reaching the gas station, Tan was hit several times.
The police said Tan sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and other parts of the body.
