MANILA, Philippines — A- 49-year-old woman whom police had described as an informant on the illegal drug trade in her community was shot dead by masked men on Saturday afternoon in front of her house in Payatas, Quezon City.
Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, head of the Station 6 of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the victim as community leader Sylvia Quebec, 49, a resident of No. 502 Payatas Road corner Abriz Road, Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.
“She was instrumental in the arrest of several drug pushers in the area,” Mendoza said.
Investigation showed the killers were wearing bonnets and were on board a motorcycle without a plate number, when they shot the victim while she was standing in front of her house at around 5:10 p.m.
Mendoza said Quebec was shot at close range and she died on the spot from a gunshot wound on the forehead.
Crime scene investigators recovered at least six empty shells from a .45-caliber pistol at the site of the shooting, according to Mendoza.
Mendoza said Quebec was actively helping the police crack down on the drug trade in her neighborhood, when she was killed.
Mendoza said investigators were also not discounting other angles as Quebec had been known to have a dispute with video karera operators in her neighborhood and had been helping the police stop the proliferation of the video karera in the area.
“Another angle that investigators are also pursuing is the possibility that the victim might have had a dispute with video karera owners in her neighborhood since she was trying to get rid of these machines in her area,” the official said.
