At least two people were killed in an ambush in Sorsogon province Wednesday night, even as police are looking into the possibility the incident was politically motivated.

PO2 Martin Espeña of the Sorsogon police said Thursday they are still verifying leads on the suspects who shot the victims while on a motorcycle.

“For now, we have established the victims are associates of barangay captain Andrew Hernandez who is running for president of the local Association of Barangay Councils (ABC). They were about to campaign in the area when they were attacked,” Espeña said in an interview on dzBB radio.

He said Hernandez, chairman of Poso village in Donsol town, was part of the group when the ambush took place.

Espeña identified the two fatalities as Danilo Razo and Oro Mirabueno. He said Hernandez and another companion, Ar-Jen Hernandez, survived.

The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the boundary of Cristo and San Antonio villages.

Mirabueno was a former ABC president in the town, Espeña said.

When asked if the New People’s Army could be behind the incident, he said, “wala pa kaming suspect (we have no suspect yet).” — LBG, GMANews.TV
