An eight-year-old girl was abducted while her father was shot dead by suspected members of the Pentagon kidnapping group in North Cotabato province on Thursday, a ranking police official said.
Chief Supt. Felicisimo Khu, Director for Integrated Police Operations-Western Mindanao (DIPO-WM), identified the victim as Kazie Tamayo, a grade school student at the Montessori in Pigkawayan town.
Khu said the abductors snatched Tamayo from her father Allan while being taken to her school at about 6:45 a.m.
The victim’s father reportedly resisted the kidnapping, prompting one of the suspects to shoot him in the stomach using a .45 cal. pistol that caused his instant death.
Hot pursuit operations were immediately launched to track down the perpetrators, tagged as members of the notorious Pentagon kidnapping group.
Khu said that checkpoint operations were also intensified to block the kidnappers who withdrew towards the boundary of North Cotabato and Maguindanao provinces, along with the younger Tamayo.
The were reports that the girl managed to escape from her captors but security authorities said the victim remained captive. (PNA)
