PDEA Condemns Brutal Killing of Agent in Region 10
All colors at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency National Headquarters and Regional Offices were flown on half mast to express sympathy and condemnation for the brutal killing of one of its Drug Enforcement Officers assigned in PDEA Regional Office 10.
PDEA Director General/Senior Undersecretary DIONISIO R. SANTIAGO ordered an immediate and exhaustive investigation on the brutal shooting of Intelligence Officer 1 Armand G. Tañeca. He was killed after performing his role as the poseur-buyer during a high risk buy-bust operation on or about 10:00 AM on May 7, 2010 at Purok 5, Barangay Saray in Iligan City. The target of the operation was a notorious drug personality identified as Garry Garcia alias Dodong Kiang.
The PDEA Chief said, “The Agency mourns the loss of another agent while in the line of duty. This exemplifies the supreme sacrifice that is offered by our gallant men and women in the field to protect the citizens from the scourge of illegal drugs and to secure a safer and drug-free future for the succeeding generations”. He added that unfortunate incidents such as these highlight the need to bolster the compensation package for all law enforcers due to the inherent risks attached to their profession.
To recall, on April 13, 2009, barely a year and one (1) month, ago, Intelligence Officer II Pablo June P. Jala and confidential informant “Tho” were killed in the initial burst of gunfire from heavily armed men who ambushed the operating team en route to serving a Warrant of Arrest against Piad Buaya Abdula, alias Piad along the vicinity of Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
“Drug law enforcement is a job for heroes. Just as Agent Tañeca’s name will be etched in the PDEA Honor Wall, we will ensure that his gallantry in action will not be in vain. It will serve as an inspiration for all PDEA officers and personnel to continue striving for excellence while performing their duties and responsibilities”, Director General Santiago concluded.
