Four teenage girls were rescued from a human trafficking ring in Jolo, Sulu last Monday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Friday.

The Coast Guard cited an initial report from its Southwestern Mindanao unit showing the victims were seen aboard M/V Ever Queen of Asia while it was docked in Zamboanga City Pier.

It identified the rescued girls as:

– Ashley Tizon, 18, of Poblacion Gefore, Zamboanga del Sur
– Ayana Fae, 18, of San Pedro, Pagadian City
– Sabrina Funtes, 19, of Dumagoc, Pagadian City
– Lea Lane 18, of Danlogan, Pagadian City

Acting on a tip, the Coast Guard Zamboanga deployed personnel from its Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection (VSEI) and Sea Base Anti-Trafficking Task Force (SBATTF) to the pier.

Joining them in inspecting the 492.33-ton vessel were personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Investigation showed the vessel skippered by Capt. Cadil Samson was supposedly to head for Jolo, Sulu.

The DSWD took the girls into custody. — ELR, GMA News
