MANILA, Philippines – One person was killed after unidentified gunmen ambushed the vehicle of Cagayan Vice-Governor Leonides Fausto’s sister-in-law in Tuao town, Friday night.

Police said the vehicle of Lenny Fausto, sister-in-law of the vice-governor, was ambushed in Barangay Alabiao around 7 p.m..

The driver of the vehicle identified as Sofronio Mamba was killed. The vice-governor’s sister-in-law and her aide, Michael Pagaduan were hurt and brought to the St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City.

Police said Fausto’s group was ambushed while they were on their way home after distributing relief goods in typhoon-hit villages in Tuao.

Police have yet to determine the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the ambush. — Report from Harris Julio, ABS-CBN Cagayan
