MANILA – The head of the Northern Police District Special Operations Unit was killed in an ambush on Friday evening in Quezon City.
Police Chief Inspector Romeo Ricalde Jr. was on his way home when motorcycle-riding gunmen suddenly appeared and opened fire at his vehicle at 10 p.m. along Hazer Street, Barangay Pansol in Quezon City.
“Bahala na ang Diyos sa gumawa nito sa asawa ko,” said his wife Bernadette.
Ricalde died on the spot.
“Sabi ng nakakita may naka-motor daw na sumusunod,” said Police Officer 2 Anthony Tejerero.
Ricalde’s family said the victim received death threats several months ago.
“Nakausap ko dati ang sabi may papatay daw sa kanya,” said a relative who declined to be identified.
