COTABATO, Philippines – The vice mayor of Kabacan, North Cotabato was killed in an ambush Friday afternoon, police said.
Investigation showed that 70-year-old Policronio Dulay was on board his motorcycle when a still unidentified gunman suddenly shot him outside a bookstore along Ma. Clara Street.
Recovered from the crime scene were an empty bullet shell believed to be from a .45-caliber pistol and live ammunition.
Police Supt. Leo Ajero said the motive behind the killing has yet to be identified.
“Maraming anggulo ang tinitingnan natin, iimbestigahan din natin kung may kinalaman ba ito sa nalalapit na eleksyon,” Ajero told ABS-CBN News.
The family of the victim, meanwhile, refused to give a statement on the incident.
Dulay first served as a councilor for three consecutive terms. He was supposed to run for his third term as vice mayor of Kabacan this year.
