Mindanao cop, pal held for gunrunning

A POLICEMAN and his pal were arrested for their involvement in gunrunning in Mindanao last Friday, a report to Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan LM Purisima said yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Umbrah Manga, 42, member of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, and Shariff Abdullah, 32, are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, said Police Regional Office 9 director Chief Supt. Juanito Vano Jr.

Vano said the two were arrested by combined agents of PRO9’s Regional Intelligence Divisionand the Zamboanga Sibugay police during an entrapment operation along the national highway in Bgy. Tiayon, Ipil town, at 11 a.m. Friday.

Confiscated from the duo were an M-16 automatic rifle with defaced serial numbers and two cal. .45 pistols. A yellow Toyota sedan (THC-512) used by the suspects to deliver the weapons to the poseur was impounded at the local Police Public Safety Company headquarters, said Vano.
