MANILA, Philippines – A former rebel-turned-militiaman went on a shooting rampage at a wake in Pagsanjan town, Laguna province, killing a married couple and wounding 5 others on Tuesday night.

Police said rebel returnee Teodolo Rizare, now a member of the Cafgu active auxiliary in Pagsanjan town, was drunk when he fired at people attending a wake in Barangay Layugan.

Investigators said that when Rizare arrived at the wake, he slipped and bumped a old person. The militiaman was on the verge of hitting the old man when he was mobbed by the other people present at the wake.

Police said that an hour later, Rizare returned to the place and fired at the people at the wake using his issued firearm.

Bernardo Dollas died on the spot while his wife, Mylene, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Five other people, 4 of them identified as Babylyn Dollas, Edren Portesa, Joel Ablao and Joel Ablao, were hurt.

Police have arrested Rizare, who is now facing charges of two counts of murder and multiple frustrated murder. — Report from Dominic Almelor, ABS-CBN News
