A delivery van carrying some P1 million worth of beauty products was hijacked by armed men, two of them in police uniforms, on a busy street in Quezon City on Friday morning, according to a belated police report.
Senior Police Officer 2 Neil Garnace of the theft and robbery section of the Quezon City Police District said the Isuzu Forward Wing delivery van with license plate WTP-149 was owned by Jubengle Enterprises.
It was carrying Unilever products which were supposed to be delivered to SM Fairview, according to company representative Nelson Basilio.
The police said the hijacking was carried out by five men at around 10 a.m. on Regalado Avenue in Fairview.
Leo Latombo, the driver of the van, said he and his two helpers were first flagged down by two men dressed as policemen.
He added that the policemen ordered him to get out of the vehicle and to open the back of the van so that they could inspect its contents.
But after he opened the back of the vehicle, Latombo said he and his helpers were pushed by the policemen into a light brown Toyota Revo where three other men were waiting.
Inside the vehicle, the three workers were blindfolded while their hands were tied with packaging tape.
Police said the victims were later released by the robbers who dropped them off somewhere in Carmona, Cavite.
The three managed to free themselves and immediately asked for help from the police.
