LUCENA City – A municipal mayor of Quezon survived  an ambush Thursday on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Kanlurang Mayao here.

Reports reaching the office of Quezon police director Senior Supt. Ricson Velasquez said San Francisco Mayor Joselito “Litoy” Alega, his wife Elvira and driver Bernabe Jorquia were unharmed but  their Izusu Altera was riddled with bullets.

Probers said the couple was on their way to San Francisco town proper when their SUV was shot several times at 3:15 am., prompting Jorquia to rev up the engine to avoid being hit and killed.

Probers said the vehicle was hit in the left front side but the slugs failed not penetrate the body.

Witnesses said three unidentified armed men were seen standing on the shoulder of the highway shortly before the incident. The trio quickly disappeared.

Probers are still digging deeper on the case and refuseD to comment when asked if the incident had something to do with politics.
